A/R & Collections calculator
A/R Aging Calculator
Total A/R hides the story. Two practices can owe the same total while one is mostly current and the other is mostly old, and old balances collect at a fraction of current ones. This calculator takes the five standard.
What this calculator shows
Total A/R hides the story. Two practices can owe the same total while one is mostly current and the other is mostly old, and old balances collect at a fraction of current ones. This calculator takes the five standard aging buckets from your A/R report and shows each as a share of the whole, plus the two shares owners watch: over 90 days and over 120 days.
Copy the bucket balances from your latest aging report. Your report may label the first bucket current or 0-30; it is the same bucket here.

A/R Aging Calculator
Where your receivables sit by age, and how much has gone past 90 days.
How the calculation works
Each bucket percentage = bucket balance / total A/R x 100. Over 90 days = 91-120 plus 120+ buckets. Over 120 days is the 120+ bucket alone.
How to read your result
A healthy report is heaviest in the first bucket and thins quickly. A fat 120+ bucket usually means balances nobody owns: old denials past appeal windows, patient balances after one statement, and payer issues never escalated. Our article on A/R aging in medical billing explains how each bucket should be worked, and A/R management is built around exactly this report.

Before you rely on the number
Results are estimates for educational and operational planning, built from the figures you enter. They are not guarantees of reimbursement, savings or recovery, and they do not replace a review of your own claims, contracts and remittances. Do not enter patient-identifiable or protected health information: this calculator runs in your browser and nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere.
FAQ
Calculator questions
Still have a question? Talk to our team about your billing workflow.
My report starts at 0-30 instead of 1-30. Same thing?
Yes. Labeling differs between systems; the buckets are the same ages.
Should patient balances be included?
Include them if your aging report does, and be consistent. Many practices review insurance A/R and patient A/R separately because the follow-up differs; running this calculator twice, once per report, is a good approach.
What do I do about very old balances?
Work them in order of dollars and deadline: appeal windows and timely filing limits decide what is still recoverable. What cannot be recovered should be written off deliberately, not left to inflate the report.
