Claims & Denials calculator
Claim Rejection Rate Calculator
A rejection means the claim never reached a payer decision: the clearinghouse or the payer's front-end edits stopped it for a fixable problem such as a missing field, an invalid code combination or a mismatched patient.
What this calculator shows
A rejection means the claim never reached a payer decision: the clearinghouse or the payer's front-end edits stopped it for a fixable problem such as a missing field, an invalid code combination or a mismatched patient record. Rejections are cheaper than denials because they can usually be corrected and resubmitted quickly, but a high rate still delays every payment behind it.
Your clearinghouse report separates rejections from denials. Use the same period for both boxes below.

Claim Rejection Rate Calculator
Rejections happen before a payer ever decides. Measure that front-door rate.
How the calculation works
Claim rejection rate = rejected claims / total claims submitted x 100. The accepted figure is total minus rejected: claims that reached the payer for adjudication.
How to read your result
Rejection versus denial is a stage question, and we explain it in full in claim rejection vs denial. Rejections point at claim preparation: eligibility checks, coding edits and scrubbing before submission. A pre-submission claim review catches most of them, which is why rejection rate falls fastest when someone owns the clearinghouse report every morning.

Before you rely on the number
Results are estimates for educational and operational planning, built from the figures you enter. They are not guarantees of reimbursement, savings or recovery, and they do not replace a review of your own claims, contracts and remittances. Do not enter patient-identifiable or protected health information: this calculator runs in your browser and nothing you type is stored or sent anywhere.
FAQ
Calculator questions
Still have a question? Talk to our team about your billing workflow.
Is a rejection the same as a denial?
No. A rejected claim was never adjudicated; fix the error and resubmit. A denied claim was adjudicated and refused; it needs correction, an appeal, or a write-off decision.
Do rejected claims hurt timely filing?
They can. The filing clock keeps running while a claim sits rejected, which is why same-day rejection work matters.
Where do I find rejection numbers?
Your clearinghouse dashboard or report, usually labelled rejections or front-end edits, separate from payer denial reports.
Want this run on your real claims?
A free billing assessment reviews your actual denials, A/R and contracts, then gives you these numbers from your own data, in writing, before you decide anything.
