Medical billing services in Dallas and across the Metroplex
Fastora provides medical billing services in Dallas, Fort Worth and the surrounding North Texas suburbs for physician practices, therapy clinics and behavioral health groups. We are headquartered in Austin and work remotely inside your EHR/PM system, so practices across the Metroplex get the same process without a local office visit.
DFW billing has a feature many teams overlook: the metro is split across two Texas Medicaid managed care service areas, and multi-location groups often bill both. The sections below cover that split, the history behind behavioral health billing in the Dallas area, and the checks we run on every claim.
Two Medicaid service areas in one metro
HHSC divides Texas into managed care service areas, and each has its own set of STAR, STAR+PLUS and STAR Kids plans. DFW sits across two of them, so the plans a member can choose depend on the county where they live.
| Service area | Counties | Cities practices often ask about |
|---|---|---|
| Dallas | Collin, Dallas, Ellis, Hunt, Kaufman, Navarro, Rockwall | Dallas, Plano, McKinney, Garland, Rockwall |
| Tarrant | Denton, Hood, Johnson, Parker, Tarrant, Wise | Fort Worth, Arlington, Denton, Weatherford |
Frisco is a good example of why this matters: the city spans Collin and Denton counties, which fall in different service areas. A pediatric practice in Frisco can see two children from the same street who belong to different sets of MCOs, with different authorization lists and provider portals.
For that reason we confirm the member's program and MCO on the date of service, not from the last visit, and we keep a payer setup sheet for each plan your practice is contracted with in each service area. The Texas Medicaid billing guide explains TMHP and MCO claim routing in more detail.
Mental health billing in Dallas after NorthSTAR
For years the Dallas area ran Medicaid and indigent behavioral health through NorthSTAR, a carve-out program that began in 1999. The Texas Sunset Advisory Commission staff recommended moving away from it, and the program ended at the close of 2016. Medicaid behavioral health services in the region were then folded into the managed care plans, as in the rest of the state.
For mental health billing in Dallas today, that means behavioral health claims for Medicaid members go to the member's MCO, or to a behavioral health vendor the MCO uses, under that plan's authorization rules. Medicare has enrolled marriage and family therapists and mental health counselors since January 1, 2024, which matters for LMFTs and LPCs serving older adults.
We verify behavioral health benefits separately from medical benefits, since they are often administered by a different entity, and we track session limits and reauthorization dates. See how we bill for psychiatry, therapy and counseling practices.
Practices we support in DFW
Medical billing in DFW covers a wide spread of specialties and practice sizes. These are the billing details we focus on for common practice types.
| Practice type | Billing focus |
|---|---|
| Multi-location groups | Correct service location and billing provider on each claim; location data matching Medicare and payer enrollment |
| Pediatrics | Texas Health Steps checkups, STAR and STAR Kids plan checks, CHIP eligibility |
| Orthopedics and sports medicine | Global surgery periods, modifier review, workers' compensation under DWC rules |
| Behavioral health | Time-based psychotherapy codes, telehealth rules by payer, authorization tracking |
| Physical, occupational and speech therapy | Timed-code units, plan-of-care certification, visit limits |
| Urgent care | E/M level support, same-day procedure billing, high-volume eligibility checks |
For a practice in Plano, Frisco or McKinney, medical billing in Plano, TX follows the Dallas service area rules. Medical billing in Fort Worth, Arlington or Denton follows the Tarrant service area rules. Commercial and Medicare rules are the same across the metro, with Medicare Part A and B claims going to Novitas Solutions, the Jurisdiction H MAC for Texas.
How our team works with North Texas practices
We do not have an office or staff in Dallas or Fort Worth. Our team works remotely from Austin, through the user access your practice grants in your EHR/PM system. Each practice gets a dedicated account contact, transparent dashboards, monthly performance reporting and a monthly review call by video.
Our work follows three phases: a Virtual Assistant phase for scheduling, registration, insurance verification and co-pays collected upfront; a Scriber phase that records visit documentation in your EHR in real time; and a billing phase for claim submission, payment posting, denial management, AR follow-up and patient billing. You can use all three or only the billing phase. See the full list of our medical billing services.
Credentialing services in Dallas-Fort Worth for growing groups
Groups that expand across counties need enrollment updated for each new provider and location. Our credentialing services for Dallas and Fort Worth practices follow a tracked nine-stage process: consultation, document collection, state licensing, NPI and CAQH setup, payer applications, panel submissions, follow-ups, final approval and ready to bill.
For Texas Medicaid, enrollment through TMHP comes first, then credentialing with each MCO in the service area where you practice. A new Fort Worth location may need contracts with Tarrant plans your Dallas office never needed. Read about provider credentialing and enrollment.

Still have a question? Talk to our team about your billing workflow.
Do you have staff in Dallas?
No. Fastora is headquartered in Austin and works with Dallas-Fort Worth practices remotely through secure access to your EHR/PM system. Your dedicated account contact handles onboarding and monthly reviews by video or phone, and client support is available 24/7. Enquiries get a reply within one business day.
Is Fastora a medical billing company in Dallas?
We are an Austin-based medical billing company serving Dallas practices remotely. That covers the full revenue cycle, from eligibility checks and coding review through claim submission, payment posting, denial management, AR follow-up and patient billing, plus credentialing for new providers and locations.
Do you work with practices in Fort Worth, Arlington and Plano?
Yes. We support practices across the Metroplex, including Fort Worth, Arlington, Plano, Frisco, McKinney and Denton. Because those cities fall in two different Texas Medicaid service areas, we set up payer rules for each MCO you work with in each area.
Which Medicaid plans can our Dallas patients have?
That depends on the county where the member lives. Dallas service area members choose from that area's STAR, STAR+PLUS and STAR Kids plans; Tarrant service area members choose from a different list. Children in foster care are in STAR Health statewide. We verify the plan on the date of service before billing.
What do medical billing services in Dallas, TX cost?
We quote after a free billing assessment, once we understand your specialty, payer mix, volume and the services you need. Depending on scope, pricing may be a percentage of collections, a flat fee per claim or a hybrid. There are no hidden setup fees and no software to install.
Can you take over old AR from a previous billing company?
Yes. We review aged claims by payer and age, check which ones are still within filing and appeal limits, correct and resubmit or appeal those that can be recovered, and report on balances that cannot. New claims are worked in parallel so current cash flow is not interrupted.
